Chimney Cleaning in Orlando, FL
Some chimneys need more than a routine sweep: years without service, heavy creosote, a lingering odor in humid weather or a flue packed with leaves and nests. A deep cleaning brings the whole system back to a safe, working state.
- Heavy creosote and debris
- Fireplace odor problems
- Systems unused for years
Chimney Cleaning
When a deeper cleaning makes sense
Central Florida chimneys spend most of the year unused, closed up in heat and humidity. Creosote that sat for years absorbs moisture and starts to smell, oak leaves, pine needles and nesting material pile up on the smoke shelf, and soot can harden on the walls of the flue.
These are the situations where we recommend a deep cleaning instead of a standard sweep.
- A campfire or musty odor from the fireplace, worse on humid or rainy days
- The fireplace has not been cleaned in several years, or you just bought the house
- Thick or hardened creosote that a regular brush does not remove
- Debris, nests or fallen masonry on the smoke shelf or in the firebox
- Smoke staining on the front of the fireplace or the mantel
Why it matters
What you get with Chimney Cleaning
Odor at the source
Fireplace odors come from deposits in the flue and smoke chamber reacting with humid air. Removing those deposits, and keeping rain out with a cap or top damper, is what actually stops the smell.
Safer fires
Heavy and glazed creosote is the main fuel for chimney fires. A deep cleaning removes the buildup a standard sweep can leave behind, before you light the next fire.
Cleaner indoor air
The hearth and floor are covered and the soot is vacuumed as it comes down, and a clean system means less soot and smoke drifting back into the house later.
How a deep cleaning works
We plan the cleaning around what is inside the chimney, so the first step is always a look at the system.
- Protect the hearth, floor and nearby furniture before any tool comes out
- Inspect the firebox, damper, smoke chamber and visible flue
- Remove nests, leaves and debris from the smoke shelf and flue
- Brush and scrape the flue, using heavier tools where creosote has hardened
- Clean the smoke chamber and firebox walls
- Vacuum everything and haul it away
- Review what we found and recommend any repair or a cap to keep the problem from coming back
Why humidity makes fireplaces smell
Creosote and soot are porous. When warm, wet air settles in an unused chimney, those deposits soak up the moisture and release the smell back into the room, often when the air conditioning creates a slight draft down the flue. That is why the odor tends to get worse in the summer, when the fireplace is not even in use.
Cleaning removes the deposits that cause the smell. A well fitted cap, a top sealing damper or a closed glass door helps keep humid air and rain from bringing it back.
Questions
Chimney Cleaning questions
Why does my fireplace smell in the summer?
Creosote in the flue absorbs humidity and releases odor, and the air conditioning can pull that air down the chimney into the room. A deep cleaning removes the deposits, and a cap or top sealing damper helps keep it from coming back.
How is a chimney cleaning different from a chimney sweep?
A sweep is the routine brushing of a fireplace in regular use. A cleaning is the deeper job we do when there is heavy or hardened creosote, a bad odor, debris or a long gap since the last service. Both start with a look at the system.
I just bought a house with a fireplace. Should I clean it before using it?
Yes. You do not know how it was used or when it was last serviced. A cleaning together with a Level 2 inspection, the level NFPA 211 recommends after a property sale, tells you whether it is safe to use.
How long does a deep chimney cleaning take?
It depends on how much buildup there is and how the chimney is built. We give you a time estimate after the first look, before we start the work.
