What Happens During a Professional Chimney Sweep?

Step 1: Arrival and Setup
We arrive on time, park courteously, and protect your home with drop cloths around the fireplace. Our HEPA vacuum is positioned to contain dust before any tools touch the flue.
Step 2: Initial Inspection
Before sweeping, we do a quick visual inspection of the firebox, damper, and accessible flue with a high-powered light. This tells us creosote level, structural condition, and whether anything needs special attention.
Step 3: The Actual Sweep
Using rotary brushes sized to your flue, we work from the firebox up, or from the rooftop down, depending on chimney design. The HEPA vacuum runs continuously, capturing dust and soot as it falls.
Step 4: Smoke Chamber & Firebox Cleaning
We hand-clean the smoke shelf, smoke chamber, and firebox, areas brushes alone can't reach. This removes the heaviest creosote concentrations.
Step 5: Final Inspection & Report
We re-inspect the flue with a video scope (when needed) and provide a written report covering creosote level, condition findings, and any recommended chimney repair work. Most sweeps take 60 to 90 minutes.
A professional sweep is a clean, contained, 60 to 90 minute process, and you'll know exactly what we found and did.
